Solidarity and Community
Since 1945, we have been supporting the people and families of the parish community.
Since 1945
The Sant’Agabio Cooperative Family was founded way back in 1945, when a group of dedicated members, together with the parish priest of the time, joined forces to support those in need within our parish community.
Our Aims
The Co-operative operates with social and community aims, providing practical support to people.
To purchase food, clothing and goods for communal use to be distributed to members, the community or organisations providing social services, on the best possible terms.
To promote and organise events, recreational or cultural activities, and all initiatives from which those involved may benefit.
To purchase, construct or renovate property for the organisation’s headquarters, for members, or for letting to others.
The 1980s
In the early 1980s, a sense of weariness hung over the members, and the Co-operative experienced a brief period of crisis, to the extent that a proposal to wind it up was put forward. However, the commitment and determination of everyone involved enabled the Co-operative to carry on.
Refurbishment of the entire building on Corso Trieste, with improvements to the let flats and special concessions for families in need.
Construction of garages and parking spaces capable of ensuring a sustainable return over time.
Support and sponsorship of recreational and cultural activities organised by associations or organisations linked to the Parish of Sant’Agabio.
Organisation of day trips and, once a year, a week-long holiday.
Since the 2000s
With the arrival of the 2000s, at the request of the parish priest, the Cooperative Family began working alongside the parish Caritas, as a service for the good and growth of our community.
3 December 2006 — Inauguration of the Fraternity Canteen.
A tangible commitment that adds a valuable piece to the great mosaic of charity and fraternity, which is increasingly present in the social fabric of the Sant’Agabio neighbourhood.
