Since 1968
Community of Sant’Egidio
Men and women united by prayer, friendship with the poor and the pursuit of world peace.
An international community
From the outskirts to the most marginalised
The Community of Sant’Egidio was founded in Rome in 1968 and is now present in 70 countries around the world. Men and women are united by prayer, care for the poor and the pursuit of peace in the world.
The Community’s focus is primarily on the outskirts of society and the most marginalised – men and women of all ages and social backgrounds who, united in listening to the Word, dedicate their voluntary and selfless efforts to helping the poor and promoting peace.
The three pillars
Prayer, the Poor and Peace
The life of the Community of Sant’Egidio is founded on these three words.
The Poor
Peace
A Sant’Agabio

Community prayer
The Community meets for prayer in the parish church on Wednesday afternoons.
School of Peace and Youth for Peace
Special attention is given to children and teenagers through the School of Peace and Youth for Peace.
Italian Language and Culture
Courses in the Italian language and culture are organised for foreigners who wish to become part of our community.
Houses of Friendship
Opportunities for socialising and friendship are organised through lunches at the Houses of Friendship, in Via Calvari and Largo Donegani.
